Live Oak Public Libraries serves Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties with 19 branch libraries and a bookmobile.  Headquartered in the historic city of Savannah, the main branch is the Bull Street Library, 2002 Bull Street. Last year, the library checked out more than 1.5 million items, answered more than 504,000 reference questions, registered more than 707,000 computer sessions, and presented library programs to more than 60,000 children.  It is the library's mission to provide excellent, responsive service to enrich people's lives, support lifelong learning and build and enhance our communities.  The library branches are: Bull Street Library, Carnegie Library, Forest City Branch, Hitch Branch, Islands Branch, Kayton Branch, Liberty Branch, Midway, Ogeechee Branch, Oglethorpe Mall Branch, Ola Wyeth Branch, Port City Branch, Port Wentworth Branch, Rincon Branch, Springfield Branch, Thunderbolt Branch, Tybee Branch, West Chatham Branch, and W.W. Law Branch.

The Live Oak Public Libraries collection includes more than 700,000 books, periodicals, videotapes, CDs, audio books, and DVDs.  Free wireless internet access is available at most branches.

Branches within the system have been enhanced and renovated over the years to offer better service to our customers.  In late summer of 2009, the newest Live Oak Public Libraries branch will open: the Southwest Chatham Branch is currently under construction and is located at the corner of Rio Road and Shawnee Street at Savannah Mall. One of the library's most popular new services is Download Destination, which allows customers access to nearly 400 audiobooks through the library's web site. Once checked out, audiobooks can be downloaded to the customer's PC, transferred to a supported media player, and in many cases burned to CD.  The growing collection includes fiction and nonfiction, romance, science fiction, and much more.

The Live Oak Public Libraries Foundation was formed in 1997 to raise awareness in the community of the importance of libraries and to raise funds for programming and services beyond the reach of the library's regular budget. The annual "Once Upon a Time" Gala is held each winter at the Bull Street Library and is the Foundation's largest fundraising event. "Tales With TWIGS," a family fundraiser, is held each spring and welcomes families to the Bull Street Library for an evening of family fun in the stacks. Each year the Foundation hosts a literary luncheon series and occasionally sponsors an out-of-town trip with a literary theme.
